On September 2019 I was able to make my second trip to Japan. I have already posted some entries about this trip, but I was missing a very important one!

Currently I only participate as a Maid in events with my Secret Sweet Maid community, but I have worked before in a real maid cafe and in big events with maids invited directly from Japan.

In this blog I have been able to tell about those experiences, but I still had to register my own experience as a client, in the best Maid Café in Japan and the world: At-home Cafe.

At-home Cafe is a Maid Cafe recognized worldwide for its level of professionalism. If you look for it on YouTube, you can see many videos that show the entire experience, but the truth is that no matter how much you can see on the internet, being there and feeling the environment is completely different from seeing it through a screen.

In the entry I'll talk about what it was like to visit the cafe as an Ojousama (young lady) who returns to her mansion for the first time.

Reencuentro con Mizukin Reunion with Mizukin

If you read my post about At home Cafe in SJE, you will know already that I worked with the premium maid Mizukin. As I was her interpreter during both days of the event, we were able to get along very well, so I wanted to be see her on my first visit to the cafe. On the Twitter accounts of the At-home maids you can check when and where maids are going to be working, so that day I went to the 3rd floor of the main cafe building in Akihabara where she would be working.

(Bienvenida a casa, señorita).
The At-home building welcomes you with a beautiful façade in the shape of a maid headdress (the headpiece worn by maids). The first floor only has a wall decorated with pictures of the premium and super premium maids, the elevator and the staircase to access the other 6 floors. Upon reaching each floor, there is an entrance where you have to wait in. When I arrived to the cafe it was at its full capacity, so I waited a couple of minutes for a table to get available. Finally Maid Itose (already graduated) greeted me with a beautiful smile and rang the bell at the entrance so that all the maids on the floor energetically received me with an "Okaerinasaimase, Ojousama!" (Welcome home, miss).

Once in my seat, Itose did all the welcome protocol with a special detail: she was doing it all in English. Although I can speak Japanese, the truth is that I wanted to put the At-home maids to test so that I could have the same experience that the hundreds of foreign tourists who step on the cafe have. I couldn't complain at all, Itose explained me very well about the menu and the special Ojousama card (points card) that they give you on your first visit.

It made me very happy to see how the maids of At-home try their best to make foreign tourists understand the concept of the Maid Café. Although they say this protocol very "as it appears in the textbook", I still think it deserves to be recognized. Even if they cannot hold a conversation fluently in English, maids will always try to use gestures and single words.

After the introduction I decided to tell the truth to Itose, who laughed when I told her that it was a test. I also told her that I worked with his senpais and that I visited the cafe because I wanted to see Mizukin. Then with her cute smile, she took my order and left.

After a few minutes, with great joy I saw that the one who came with my order was Mizukin herself!

Mizukin was very happy to see me and that I could finally see her performing as Premium Maid at the At-home Cafe itself. I was able to give her some Chilean sweets that I brought her as a gift and we talked a little more before she left to attend another customer..

Now that I remember, as I had already had lunch I ordered the drink set with an iced latte and a cheki. In the latte, the maid can draw a picture with caramel sauce on top of the milk foam, so I asked Mizukin to draw Mittan, her little character.

While I was enjoying all the atmosphere (the cafe is small so it looks cozy) the maids handed me a special penlight from the cafe which is to cheer on the maids when they do live performances. (I forgot to take a picture of it !!)

Then, from one moment to another, the lights in the room went out and Mizukin and Itose along with other maids danced to "Aikome Forever", an At-home song.

This is when I have to reckon with a little embarrassment that I started to cry (lol). I was trying to hold back my tears, because I was finally watching a live performance at a maid cafe in Japan. Although I, as a maid did the same when I worked at Meido and at special events, seeing them as a customer is something I always dreamed of. Although on my first trip to Japan I also went to a maid café and saw a performance, seeing Mizukin shine on her own stage was very emotive for me. "So this is how maids work in Japan" I thought.
To enter a maid café, you usually have to pay an entrance fee for 60 minutes. My time was going to be over soon, but before that I had one last thing to do: take a polaroid photo (cheki) with Mizukin. Thanks to that I was able to talk to her for a few more minutes before I left. As I left the cafe, Mizukin waved me off at the door along with the "Itterasshaimase Ojousama!" (Good luck, miss) she said along with all the other maids.

I decided to go down the stairs to also take a look to the At-home Shop, a small store that in the 2nd floor of the building. I bought some bromides (studio photos) for friends and of course one of Mizukin for myself.
